I’m watching this because my daughter brought in a cat that had ticks. We are in disagreement with her on if a tick will remove its self from a live animal that may be sick and attach itself to another animal or human.

A few weeks ago, i was taking a break from my bike ride along the road under a tree. A tick that was definitely a tick landed on my leg. I killed it with fire. Less than a minute later, another tick landed on my phone. I spend a lot of time outside. I know what ticks look like. They were deer ticks, to be precise.

🧐 so, tick climbs onto racoon, racoon climbs into tree, and before it can sink its fangs into the racoon is scratched off (therefore still hungry) and lands on the human.... Regarding identification, am I correct then in thinking that as you said humans misidentify ticks, so then also the app INaturalist is misidentifying them as well? 🤨 While I can possibly see a tick NOT climbing a tree that is trimmed 60ft high, how can you be 100% convinced ticks aren't on branches or vines that are 6-10 ft up? I propose some field research is needed to prove that as you say it is 100% certain a tick will not fall from a tree, if you are up to the challenge?

While in the army, we were told to do regular "tick checks." I remember the first time hearing the "they jump out of trees onto you" claim. It came immediately after everyone did their checks. We were gathered under a pine canopy getting a class. Several soldiers got ticks in their hair (what little they had) or on their neck/shoulder area. A sergeant said the nymphs had "jumped on them." Despite the heat, it was quite breezy. My guess is they were either blown onto them or, more likely, came out of the pine straw and where they were discovered was just coincidental.

When I was a camp counselor for Outdoor School a fellow counselor used the cigarette method to get several ticks to let go and drop off some of the kids. He didn't get close enough to scorch the ticks, and used foil to keep the heat from the kids' skin. He explained what he was doing, saying to come in from the side and be patient -- I watched him remove one tick this way and it took more than half a minute before it let go and moved sideways away from the cigarette. He also said not to even try it if you hadn't been trained; he'd learned from his grandfather who made him practice holding the cigarette very still and not too close. The weirdest thing I ever saw for removing a tick was putting a drop of fingernail polish on it! I have no idea why that worked but it did. An interesting method was a farmer who used an old-fashioned wire stripper, catching the tick ahead of its body with the smallest gap on the wire stripper and gently levering it out. He said tweezers didn't work for him because he couldn't squeeze gently enough.

Ok, first of all: ticks have INSANE smell. you know how dogs have a good scent? Well ticks are (probably) better. So imagine you can smell a fingernail polish right? The tick is gonna smell it thousand of times more. No wonder it doesn't like it. Also they breathe with their skin. So if you cover their skin, they can't breathe. Also HOW STUPID!!!! Never ever convince a tick to leave your body. Because then, it will 100% infect you with whatever it has. If the tick bites you, it will not infect you with anything, untill 24 have passed. So if you pull it out with tweezers before 24 hours have passed, you're fine. BUT! If you will convince it to go, then as it leaves it actually starts vomiting, or something, and it leaves all the dangerous microbes it has! It will also do that if you hurt it, cut it, scrape it off or whatever else. How insanely stupid of people to call themselfes "profetionals" and then they just make the situation way worse! How dont they know this?

Omg! Never had a TIC on me until TODAY!!! I did t know what it was. To me it looked like a “ black head” to the left of my right knee. Noticed it showering. I got out of shower and tried gently to “ squeeze” it. That’s when the bell rang in my head” this is a possible TIC!! I got a pair of tweezers and gently pulled up. It appeared to have all come out? 🤷‍♀️I washed the area w soap and water and then put alcohol on a cotton ball and wipes the site. Still concerned. I’m literally freaking out ( which does not help

So this is a first: A) one gets sunburn and skin cancer with their legs fully covered (uhm, any men want to confirm this since they wear pants year round!), hence the need for pant fabrics to be treated with sunscreen??!!?? B) Unless one is less than hygienic in the southern hemisphere (aroma to attract them), how many folks have really been bothered with insects there that need insect repellent? And let's forget the fact that the stingers on any of these insects aren't long enough to go thru regular pants and BREAK the skin.

I haven't received an AGS diagnosis but I was bitten by a tick and afterwards dairy gave me the worst GI issues ever. After cutting red meat out of my diet I noticed feeling more calm overall and calmer GI issues. Added red meat back in and went to the bathroom within 30 minutes which typically means I just ate something inflammatory to my gut then a few days later big gut inflammation.

Ticks 100% do not jump out of trees. Weaver bettles look similar and they do. I've tested this theory. I've pulled out tall grass with ticks at the top at least 20 to 30 times to prove to my friends, kids, etc. 100% of the time they just hang off with there legs out. After awhile they just walk down real slow. I've never had 1 jump off onto my hand or finger. They walk down. Given that opportunity why wouldn't they just jump. Being 8inches to 2ft piece of tall grass. I hold the very bottom straight up. In 20 years, I've never had a tick get desperate and jump to my hand. If they won't jump 8 inches why would they jump from 10 to 20 feet out of a tree. He's right they don't. Try this yourself. They just walk or extend legs out.

I purchased, at my vet, a product called 'TicTwister' in a package with 2 sizes. I still have the packaging it came in with instructions. So we are NOT to twist the tick after getting the body underneath the unit? I used it on my dog the second time he was bitten in under 8 weeks. I photographed and brought to the vet, in a Ziploc baggie and went to the vet again. Would you believe this particular product and its instructions are incorrect??

I went camping in Northwoods in wisconsin and the ticks fell from the pine trees, you could hear them hitting the ten, they will fall in the food, we left 1st thing in the morning, unpacking from that trip was painfully long, respect the tick. Sorry but they do fall from the trees, also birds also help transport them .

Glad i watched this! Very interesting. I was mostly interested about Pyrythririum as that is the only insecticide allowed to be used on what is stupidly named "organic" food. Every living thing is organic! Pyrythririum is also a great product as a barrier insecticide barring insects from entering one's home. What I am wonder is how long does Pyrythrin stay impressioned into clothing & shoes? Once washing the pants, I would believe that would leach out immediately. Very knowledgeable! Thanks for making the video.
